A shoe shiner turned artist. Big Al Taplet’s brightly coloured hand-painted signs attracted more than a shoe shines. His artwork would be purchased by tourists for years to come in New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina hit which he then relocated to Houston, Texas with his twin brother, Little Al. Taplet’s work can be found in collections worldwide, as well as 70 artworks at the House of Blues in New Orleans.
