Cendana Wood Ceremonial Bowl, “Dolong”, Heart Shaped. The Toraja Tribe hold status and prestige high in their culture. Depending on the status and wealth of a family, funerals could last over a few months. Toraja are predominantly animistic and otherwise Islamic, with the minority Christianity. Dishes such as this heart shaped dish with a zoomporhic head were used as a personal dish most likely for a high ranking family member.
